20 things to do when you are Bored

Its the end of January and some of you may have cabin fever, just think how you will feel by February or March. In this day and age  I don’t get how ANYONE with all the crap we have to ‘toy’ around with and so on, how can one get bored?

There are endless Apps, LOADs of great shows on television now (I Highly suggest watching Lethal Weapon.. its my stand out favorite new show last year.) Plus there’s streaming as well, and all the stuff from the past on youtube.

a few suggestions?

*Watch Lethal Weapon, Game of Thrones or Vikings

*Write a short story or a poem on how you feel

*as much as I hate to…. exercise a bit.  (do one of each)

*I have a giant pile of books and only 2 small bookcases,  organize your books by alphabetical order (the ones you plan to keep) or make each shelf a different genre, I’ve also seen where people put all books of one color together and look quite pretty especially if you do it as an accent wall)

*READ a print or digital book

*Get a hobby for instance ( I make jewelry and sew among other things like paint…not like I’m good at drawing in the first place but I just freehand the whole thing. I have a few blogs (this, one for writing,   Crafts, and my Entertainment one which is the one that keeps me the busiest.and there’s my main one which aside I post random stuff that doesn’t fit to the others, (and I do repost some of the articles and reviews from my other blogs there.

*Play a board or card game with family or friends.

*Is it the spring or summer? Is it a Saturday?  Go check out some Yard or whatever you want to call them sales, or even a flea market (why are they called that anyway?)  All the ones I’ve been to have sold new stuff Like the Big one in Englishtown new jersey and Stormville.

*You know those adult coloring books? Buy one and some colored pencils (they look best that way to me, though if you get one where the pages have the art on one side, then why not try watercolor as well?)

*Decide what you will wear the next few days

*make a list, any list

*Go through your closet, and see what no longer fits.

*write a short story

How A Pair Of Rainbow Socks Changed My Life – The Mission – Medium

See the source imageAfter reading this story, I wanted to share it with as many people as possible. You see I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety and I thought this was something that might help others. I like those crazy novelty socks I have a pair I call my ‘movie socks’  as I usually wear them when I see a movie in the theatre, they have popcorn and popcorn bags on them. I also have a vampire mouth on another pair. Some socks have cats on them I have a pair with Scooby doo as well a small collection of Halloween socks.

If you are feeling glum be it depressed for the past month or more or just sad for a few days.. push that gloomy cloud away with a special treat for yourself…

For instance, the story that inspired this post  How A Pair Of Rainbow Socks Changed My Life – The Mission – Medium

Buy yourself something out of the ordinary than you normally would. only wear solids? Get checker, stripes, polka dots wear pastels? buy bold or neon colors heck mix the previous and that together. Better yet look for something that is the craziest, ugliest or something that actually makes you laugh when you see it.

Find a hobby. If it’s is some sort of craft, the progress and completion of even a small project will make you proud especially when and if you use that hobby to make gifts for friends and family. People are surprised when they hear you made something yourself. (and it’s so much better than what I feel is empty praise when you are a kid and draw something that looks like a scribble)

Here’s some of my creations (photography, Drawing, Jewelry made and whatever else) and some newer stuff

Have a pet? cuddle with them, pet them let them lay in our lap. Pets lower high blood pressure and if your pet is anything like my cat Sully, they should be full of laughs. If not You can see any videos I post of Sully on YouTube on Rocklvr76 as well as all the other cats and animal videos on there. (try a cat compilation)

Honestly I do have a guilty pleasure but I never feel guilty about it so does it count as one? If I catch Tom and Jerry on (the old ones I grew up with) I’ll watch and they still surprisingly make me laugh. The newer ones not as much but sometimes do have that good old formula but can’t beat those old ones. Same with Looneytoons.

In closing  if you get mad don’t just curse or insult someone, give yourself (and maybe even the idiot who is pissing you off) a laugh.

Put  3 words together with the same first letter like “You’re an abstract asinine ant-eater” or abstract asinine artifact…

Let me know your insults and what you got that makes you happy and chases away the blues.

50 things NO woman over 40 should own

I came across this

50 things no woman over 40 should own

and wondered if I might have any of them. The only thing is, what if I do have some of these things? What if I don’t actually look over 40?

can I get away with having them and using them?  I decided to post the link as I’ve seen people on the street that forget about 40! They look in their 60s or old and dressed like they are in High school.

What of the items on the list do I still have?

(Not quite) Uggs…. don’t have uggs, just slipper boots one in which I even had re-soled as I wear them so much as they keep my feet warm when it’s cold and my feet don’t feel like they are sweating in them. The other pair is really warm and usually have to take off. So as mom calls one of them my ‘viking boots’ I won’t be getting rid off

*Scrunchies, I don’t really use them but I can also re-use them for things other than my hair.

My aunt made a couple for me with a then favorite hockey team. Also sometimes they work well for a ‘ribbon’ on a gift.

Honestly, I used to just wear them as a bracelet most of the time.

Claw Clips I don’t have many but I do have a few one or two in which a friend gave me. I have really thick hair, and it I think ends in the back of my kees (or close to) So these I will NEVER get rid of no matter what. They actually Hold my hair. Plus people still think I’m in my 20s-30s!

Leggins the only pair I have is a pair I bought for Halloween a couple years ago. They are black, but they have the skeleton legs printed on it. Not sure if they make me look skinnier but really I don’t think they’d look flattering on me during the daytime!

(sort of) Corkboard  It’s currently on the wall behind my door. Not used for anything in particular and I’ve been meaning to clean it up a bit. mostly I just stick this or that on it until I need it. Honestly I don’t even remember what’s on it aside from push pins, maybe a couple of novelty keychains hanging on it. Once I get it cleaned up Coupons, invitations, appointment cards will go on it. Frankly, I think EVERY home should have a cork board or some dry erase board.

Blatant Logos– I think the only thing I have like that is shirts of my favorite bands as well as sports teams. I never really shopped for any specific brand on purpose;  however certain things well I used to love the MUDD company jeans and purses. I had found a couple of Steve Madden brand purses in a store we used to have everything was supposed to be half off.  Would you believe I got a couple of their purses for like $5-$10 dollars! Oh, Currently the ONLY Brand/logo I look for is Sketchers. If I have anything else with a brand name (or logo on it) it wasn’t ‘t On purpose. (For instance… I was at a Thrift store and saw a black purse that was just my taste. When I switched my items to the purse, I noticed it was the Fossil brand. My mother likes those Le sport sac bags That’s really the only thing brand name she actually gets. Sometimes she’slucky enough to find one in a thrift shop. I was lucky enough to find one with cats on it for her as we love cats, and I’ve always had one since I was 3 or 4.

Key Chain  I think the only thing on my 2″ keychain ting is my keys, those store tags, oh yeah and I DO have one thing on it that is heavy but it’s on there for a reason, I could use it as a weapon if I think I’m in danger. For those of you that know of Norse Mythology or have watched the Thor movies, a friend of mine (now passed on) gave me a Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer) keychain. Tho’ I guess being it gets destroyed in the Ragnarok movie, maybe I should take it off, but as I said is useful.

Tassels– well I don’t think I have any but the only time I like them and are not in the way, is when they are a zipper pull.

DIY nail art… does this include nail stickers that are holiday themed? I mean as long as one does not wear it to work then you are ok, right? I do my own nails be it polish or manicure. I do include decals sometimes, i even have that crazy stamp thing that has the design disks. (There should be a product review on it)

Beat up bras  I am SO VERY  GUILTY OF THIS. Now I don’t really use regular bras,I usually always wear sports bras as the fastener in the back on the regular ones always bothers me (I have back problems and since jr. high I try to avoid wearing regular bras) I do have one or 2 regular bras (which at this point probably won’t fit but I can’t always find the sports bra I like and now they seem to be making them like regular bras!) my only thing is once they start getting streched and  worn out, is when they start feeling comfortable for me.  (but then I never really cared what people think of me anyway) i would suggest, however, to save one or 2 of your ‘worn out’ bras ones that are comfy but you wouldn’t wear out. They can be used around the house when company comes or you stay over at someone’s house.

Charm Bracelets see the ones they show I don’t know if I have one of those other than a Halloween themed one. And then one I made with a Canada/Toronto theme as I went there.  My problem, however, is what about the other ‘charm’ bracelets. Like those (I think it was called Italian charm bracelets) they were square or those pandora charm bracelets. Or what if I do have one as pictured in the slideshow, what if you can’t hear it though does that make it ok to wear then?

Wristlet I have one or 2 I use depending on which one it is one for when I just go to a family gathering or the basic one that looks like a large coin purse i use to throw keys, and a few thing in if I go next door to a neighbor’s house. Also if you just love a wristlet so much, re-use it as a cosmetic bag!

Low-rise jeans  Yeah Good luck on that. I try my best to find normal regular jeans but that’s not always easy. Maybe it depends on your area, or the store but I’ve totally given up on buying new jeans. I just buy what I can find I like at a thrift store the reason is, if it fits you from there, then it shouldn’t shrink. Also quite honestly pants are a necessity so to me buying any jeans even a no-name brand for over $20 is just a no -no. Also be it a new pair or used from the thrift store, either way, it’s still hard to find my size but at least (so far) they are less than $10. Plus i see it as unless you wear junior or petite size pants, then you shoudn’t be wearing low rise anyway.

Peasant Blouses– Yeah I do need to get rid of the ones I have but I’ll have to see, maybe one i can keep for a Viking themed costume! But then again maybe it isn’t a ‘peasant’ blouse. (It doesn’t look like what the girl in the picture is wearing anyway

Dust Ruffle– oh man I did away with this AGES ago. i hate them,. They are nothing but a way to injure yourself trip pver it, stub your toe on the leg its hiding. Besides… I hate ruffles, I hate the word ruffle. Actuallly I think I stopped using one before the 90s. But I’d love to travel back to the 90s!

Stuffed animals HELL NO am I going to hide my bed decor! Honestly, My wall is cold and I have my bed pushed against it as that was the only way to get enough room in the room. I use the stuffed ‘pets’ as insulation as well as a body pillow. Also, I change them up depending on my mood or season. I have a few for Halloween, a couple for December and so on. heck, my mother even has a few on her bed.

‘junk’ jewelry I still have some of this from past years heck, I might even have a couple things from when I was little. I also make my own ‘fashion’ or costume jewelry (whatever you want to call it) I’ve sold some of it to the people at our bank, I make not only for adults but for children as well. Oh, and my Colored Pencils, markers etc are for coloring as well as writing in my journal or handwriting letters. I just think it makes it look nicer.

Single Socks If you are not a creative person, and won’t be able to make it into a change purse or something else. I usually use them as a rag for dusting or ONLY wear them in the house when your feet are cold so you don’t have to dirty a pair.

Shot glasses– mmm what about say one of your favorite band, another of a favorite show, a couple souvenir ones from Planet Hollywood and hard rock cafe? Oh and the one my friend sent me from Salem Mass. of some HEx place? mmm do I have one of my favorite hockey team?

Holey pants… I do understand if they are your favorite pants, I think I went through my senior year of H.S. in one pair of jeans… i can understand if you yearn (like me) for the 90s again. Or just like the look but if you are BUYING those jeans already with holes… you are jsut a plain idiot! You are PAYING for them to be that way rather than it naturally happening and looking better!! WHY would someone’s jeans get holes in them on the top or back of the thighs? if anything if they put a hole in the butt that would be a spot that gets worn (if like me i the 90s) hung out at the park a lot. The knees ripped open, the butt got worn and at one point had a big hole in the crotch area. When I couldn’t wear them anymore you could have said they up and walked out on me! Also I may be 41 but mentally I think I’m still in my 20s heck sometimes I think I’m still in my teens. (or so wish)

They even included a link for the guys as well! 40 things no man over 40 should own

Best Beauty Gifts

Sorry for the lack of posts, my computer died, I think it was mid October and I think I already had one post scheduled to automatically publish. Now I have a laptop so I hope once I get caught up on everything, I can hopefully keep up and get more posts written, edited and so on. Being we will all be busy I am not planning on posting anything unless I already have it scheduled. However I am planning during that time to work on and start the schedule for the new year. Til then, Happy Holidays and New year in case you don’t hear from me before!

Being as it is time many start their holiday shopping I thought I’d put together a quick gift giving guide. Sadly my favorite thing on here is no longer available.

Healthy habits and a comprehensive skin care routine will help you see the skin you’ve always wanted.

So I came across this on Pinterest  and there are a few things I think I’m going to have to change for my version when I write it up. (Which I may do in my 2018 BUJO. Some I will use others I don’t really need to follow liek the make-up brushes, I don’t use make up often let alone aside from some chapstick or gloss I don’t use it in the summer (rarely, I will put a smudge of eyeshadow)

Exfoliate I would say is best every other day and if you have sensitive skin 2x a week. Although if you are a tanning buff like me (i do use 100SPF but I tan fast as well!) I would exfoliate everyday (or night before) especially your legs BEFORE you shave with a pumice stone or preferably a Loofa  (and no its not the shower Poofs…  They make them for your face too!)

go in the sun and use some baby oil while you still have water dripping on you. You nor a boyfriend or Husband will be able to keep yourself from ‘petting’ your silky legs. And it won’t burn you that way you still get the tanning effect from the baby oil but you will have your sun block over it so you won’t get burned.

weekly Exercise? Thought that was supposed to mostly be a daily thing!!?!?! Though I really hear every other day

I’ve read once a month is fine for cleaning your make up brushes, but then I guess that depends on all the different colors etc you use.

‘grooming eyebrows’ should be bi weekly not monthly especially if this ‘grooming’ means waxing or tweezing. Don’t forget if you get your eyebrows professionally waxed, that you can go a month without having to go back if you maintain it. After a week or even a few days check to see if any hairs have emerged and tweeze those buggers out! This way you stay polished looking and don’t have to pay whatever it is every other week. (or even cheaper, DIY! My Wax cost me no more than $10 and it takes a lot less time than even if you have an appointment you sometimes have to wait… then go through it… it takes me no longer than 5 minutes to do my own.

You should condition your hair weekly and month should be a deep condition or hot oil treatment (especially if you have split ends) If you use product in your hair, blow dry it even in summer, or or is just naturally dry and strawlike… you will want to use conditioner every other wash, and once a week use a deep moisturizing conditioner. (and may I suggest a leave-in conditioner.)  also if you have naturally dry hair.. instead of every day (which is what is drying it out… try every other to day or more… say you last washed your hair on Sunday.. wash it on Tuesday night or wait til Wednesday. This way the natural oils can seep into the hair to smooth the follicle as well as you won’t get split ends much. And if During the summer use a little conditioner and sunblock mixed to smooth on the ends of your hair and your scalp. (this way your head won’t get burned nor your hair fried!

20 Great Habits For Stronger, Shinier And Healthier Hair

This post was inspired by 20 Great Habits For Stronger, Shinier And Healthier Hair

Now we all have our own beauty routines but sometimes we just need to break thins up and try something new, or use it every so often. Sometimes your body can get used to something and it doesn’t work anymore.

I wash my hair (depending on time of year) anywhere between every 2 days, during the winter or if I don’t plan to go out I only wash it once a week!  (basically when it looks a bit greasy that’s when to wash it, otherwise you dry out your hair, the shampoo strips the natural oils from your scalp that help in healthy hair, not to mention get split ends faster.

I also take Biotin it helps with healthy skin, growing hair and nails.

I use this  Olive Oil ‘lotion’ for hair to keep my long mane tame especially for the ends so they don’t split. it keeps frizz away for me as well in the winter static.

One or twice a week I condition it, but during the summer I do so a little more.

Once a month use a hot oil treatment (or a conditioner you leave in for awhile) During the winter this should be done once a week.

Also in the summer I suggest using some sunscreen specially made for your scalp

also even if you are trying to grow your hair out… see a stylist every 3-6 months to trim those dead ends off.

Plus your hair always looks super shiny and healthy when you leave

*Item links are to amazon and are my recommendations. I’ve used many for years

Michel Mercier Hair Brush

I saw this brush on tv, and being as my hair is the longest it’s been since I was a child (when I sit down, if I’m not careful I sit on it and my head snaps back!)

Michel Mercier ultimate-detangling-brush-productI thought maybe if I used the brush it would work better than the ones I already have. Mind you I recently did receive a brush around the holidays from Influenster to review. That was a finishing brush after you’ve already detangled etc. These are for right away, but never brush your hair right away when it’s wet. The shaft is weak and more breakage happens.

The instructions are reverse what we were taught as children though I see the logic!

Use starting from the tip (bottom) of the hair and work 13way to the scalp. This is sort of hard to wrap your hair and especially your hand around as I caught myself brushing from scalp to tip. But it does get the tangles out and doing as instructed it doesn’t hurt (however for those big tangles… hold on above the knot) So with this, there is no need for detangling spray! I no longer brush with any brush from scalp to bottom.

I am trying to figure out the difference between the 3 brushes, when I stood before the display the bristles all looked the same, as well the same amount of them. I didn’t see any difference in the thickness or length for the bristles. Though from this picture it could just be the color, but the blue looks like they may be closer together but I’m not sure.

My  one (?) complaint is possibly only due to the winter weather and it being plastic, MAJOR static. You might want to have a dryer sheet, water and/or some sort of hair spray at hand. (It might be a good idea when not using the brush to keep a dryer sheet on it, poke the bristles if possible through the sheet) The static may also depend on your hair (is it dry or oily etc) as well as the atmosphere (air) in the home.

Another one or 2 improvements that could be made…. I would like a longer (maybe even wood)  handle and maybe another 2 inches long with grips.

Also be warned if your cat likes to be brushed, she may show up when you are brushing your hair! Mine certainly does so I end up having to brush mine, a few times then her.
