20 Great Habits For Stronger, Shinier And Healthier Hair

This post was inspired by 20 Great Habits For Stronger, Shinier And Healthier Hair

Now we all have our own beauty routines but sometimes we just need to break thins up and try something new, or use it every so often. Sometimes your body can get used to something and it doesn’t work anymore.

I wash my hair (depending on time of year) anywhere between every 2 days, during the winter or if I don’t plan to go out I only wash it once a week!  (basically when it looks a bit greasy that’s when to wash it, otherwise you dry out your hair, the shampoo strips the natural oils from your scalp that help in healthy hair, not to mention get split ends faster.

I also take Biotin it helps with healthy skin, growing hair and nails.

I use this  Olive Oil ‘lotion’ for hair to keep my long mane tame especially for the ends so they don’t split. it keeps frizz away for me as well in the winter static.

One or twice a week I condition it, but during the summer I do so a little more.

Once a month use a hot oil treatment (or a conditioner you leave in for awhile) During the winter this should be done once a week.

Also in the summer I suggest using some sunscreen specially made for your scalp

also even if you are trying to grow your hair out… see a stylist every 3-6 months to trim those dead ends off.

Plus your hair always looks super shiny and healthy when you leave

Happy memorial Day ~ Sunblock season!!!

I want to take a moment to wish you a Happy Memorial day weekend. I hope you get to chill & Grill.

And as a daughter, Niece, and granddaughter of veterans and have many cousins in the military

a moment to Thank and  remember those who served

I wanted to take this moment to help you out with some fun in the sun care.

Man my nose looks big there.

Many think that you just put sunblock on once or twice and you’re good for the day, WRONG!

I may not burn out of the water but no matter what I put sunblock on throughout the day.  While I have Neutral to

Olive tone skin, on the beach I put on at least a 30 or more block EVERY hour (one reason I likely do not burn). Now if I go in the water (which seems to be the only time I do burn) I put more on even if I applied just 5-10 minutes ago, even if I use the sport sunblock which is supposed to be waterproof. Those of you with fair skin, you need to apply at least every half hour and use the maximum SPF you can find.

Another thing is, no matter what skin you have… you need to find the BROAD SPECTRUM  (which protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Think of it this way…UVB is what makes you burn, UVA is what ages your skin.

Also don’t use the stuff from a dollar store, Yeah it’s a great idea to pick up an extra in case you run out but I’d rather get another one of a trusted brand like Neutrogena, No-ad (a no frills brand), Banana Boat, or something from Hawaiian Tropic.

You don’t know what its made with, how  old or effective it will be and I re-blogged this by someone last year about what happened to someone who used the dollar store brand.

I’ve herd all the beauty magazines, dermatologists etc say You are not supposed to use last summer’s sun block, and to buy a new tube  really every 6 months. (If you only use it during the summer, then you are not supposed to use it the next summer as it may be ineffective in it’s job.)

For me, it depends on where I have it stored. As long as it’s away from the heaters, and not in the bathroom  but in a cool dry play you may get a few more months out of it, like if you bought it at the end of the season. Also I keep my block in my purse as there are days you can just feel when the UV index is maxed.

Natural Loofah Exfoliating Bath Sponge by Spa Destinations™ (3 PACK of 4" Loofah) "Creating The In Home Spa Experience"™ 100% Money Back Satisfaction Guarantee! Great Value! My Sun care starts before I go in the sun, well before even going to the pool or beach or in what should be this summer’s case.. on the boat!

I not only use a loofa which many seem to think those stupid mesh shower puffs are a loofa! They are no where in the same category. A loofa is a natural  sea sponge which exfoliates skin (so you get a more even tan)  wash in a circular counter clock-wise  motion until your skin gets a pinkish tint (almost as if you got light sun burn color.) That way you know the dead skin is off, and you will get an even tan.

I highly suggest using a loofa before you shave! It will get those hairs you can see just below the skin, but are not quite out yet. When I don’t use a loofa or pumice stone before I shave being I have dark hair it looks like I didn’t even shave!

In the 90s after I would shave I’d  rub baby oil all over my legs, before drying off, then I’d rinse some of it off. They would be so soft, one of my guy friends couldn’t keep his hands off my legs. Heck when I do it now (I use the baby oil with Aloe in it)  I love how soft my legs are!

Before getting out of the shower I rub some baby oil in everywhere while I still have some water on me to lock in the moisture. usually I try to make it enough (yet little) that i don’t need to rinse off. Say a quater size amount for each arm, leg and torso. If you want to use on your face just use what remains on your hands as well as rub into the backs of your hands!

Here’s another option which looks like a face cloth & here are round facial ones

My favorite POST sun beauty tip…. (I’ve done all my life)

Leave a bottle or tub of Noxema moisturizing cream  in the fridge

(or if you can find it Lander original Skin Cream the label must say Cool refreshing  removes  oil)

We put this on us if we get a burn (after our showers) it keeps peeling to a minimum if there’s any at all.

To Prevent Sunburn

add to tub   (but you should STILL use sublock)

1 TSP applecider vinegar

1 cup water

Yogurt with live cultures and NO fruit

aloe vera and Vitamin E

Sunburn face

Smash apricot or

thin slices of cucumber will help rehydrate

Already Peeling skin?

Keep Mosquitoes Away

FRESH thyme or Basil

Citronella oil

8 Simple tricks to sooth and heal dry cracked fingertips this winter

This is the time of year (well in the states at least) where nails can become brittle and skin very dry even to the point of cracking! I wouldn’t suggest the superglue, that can lead to making things worse as it pulls your skin off. Before going out with or without gloves put on a thick lotion or some vaseline type all over your hands (and if you will be outside without face protection put it on your face especially your T-zone (that of your forehead and nose) Use moisturizer everyday.
When You take a shower don’t use too hot of water as that can also strip your skin of moisture (surprisingly right?) While I am still int he shower with the water on, I rub some babyoil on everywhere esp. that which is usually exposed to the elements or just ends up getting cold first!) I rinse off. before I towel dry I use a little more especially On my feet, hands and arms (the spots that feel dry or usually end up feeling itchy during the winter.)
You also don’t want the heat in your house too high… as that can be stripping the moisture. Might I suggest a humidifier even if it’s just on your bedside table at night.
But be sure especially if you work outside… keep lotion with you, and put it on every time after your wash your hands and before you put your gloves back on or go back to work. My dad’s fingers would get so dry they’d split and man did it look like it hurt! (honestly just looking at it would bring a tear to my eye)
You want ones that are thick, not watery like those perfumey type of lotions. Think of ‘body butter’ that’s creamier than a lotion. So its more ‘cream than lotion that you are looking for. Here are some of the products my dad uses as well as I have in the past or still do!
For those of you that have this problem, Udderly Smooth (udder cream) or the O’keefe’s brand is great to use.. I think my dad used to also have something in a square tin as well..
All Natural Balm , Burt’s Bees, Neutrogena, .. Nivea is also good, I tin kit’s one of the thickest lotions…err Cream I have seen!
my Favorite is the Lotions like Dream Cream  and the Vaseline like (ultra Balm  at Lush (which is a vegan product) Also I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Lemony Flutter.. really it’s cuticle butter but it has a nice lemon smell that I use it as a  cream balm as well!
If you go to the nail salon, get a manicure especially if they warm the lotions~! The Salon I go to uses warm lotion, and feels so much more soothing than just rubbing in the lotion.
Also I suggest using a pumice stone to remove any dry skin from your hands (etc body) you need to exfoliate that dry skin off. then put your lotion balm or whatever on.  I know there are some that just use a little olive oil to prevent their hands from cracking and skin from drying. (always best to put oils or the lotions on when you still have some beads of water on you from your shower.

Back to school….Fashion programmed

I remember each back to school year I think I would get 2-3 pairs of jeans/pants and a few new tops from T shirts, to button down blouse and a new pair of shoes or boots and sneakers plus a purse of course and backpack.  I was maybe a bit more fashionable when I was in school but now….

I suck at fashion, I like my t-shirts and jeans (and not even the women’s t-shirts, they just don’t fit my shoulders right, even when I buy 2-3 sizes bigger!  So when I saw this

(well the picture) In a sense I  thought, about The Jetsons cartoon & Clueless.. you know where she has the closet & the computer program that has all the clothes programmed into it and ‘tries them on’ via the computer. Sadly as far as I know, that  does not yet exist, and have yet to hear of an app for that!..

Now something like this would be great for back to school, the new clothes you get you could add in and have a way that the program sorts the various items into different outfits, and if youy want to take the time, you can add your earrings and other accessories, (purses, belts necklaces etc) to show what looks best, the you won’t have to take so much time trying things on! (You could sleep another 15 minutes, maybe more!)

Why not do something like that for yourself? Do your own fashion show both for spring/summer & winter/fall wardrobes.  Take photos of all your clothes (with or without you in them) even if you want to do it by outfit! Just remember include all shirts you can wear with one pair of pants/dress etc together. If you can leave the bottoms with those & use something between those and the next as a divider (maybe a jacket ? That goes with it all.) make life easy and make an album on facebook or print the photos out and put them in a photoalbum this way when you get rid of something you can delete/throw that one out and take a new photo to add. If we had a program like this, then some of us would likely not be as long getting ready.
