So the information within was the original beauty Balm, the other pages I’ve posted here were as well until the site they were originally posted on started to mkae changes & I had to spin off the sections. Actually There is still at least 2 sections I want to make seperate pages for.
No Nipping or Tucking required
Beauty doesn’t always come easy. Some are ‘born’ pretty & don’t seem to have to do a thing. Some have to ‘work’ for it.
Even those born beautiful may even have to work a bit for it.
I will help you with Health, Beauty & via other pages maybe I’ll include a bit of fashion as I don’t think I’m good at it. (I just like to be comfortable. T-shirt & jeans to me is fine for all occassions, you just need to figure a way to dress it up or down!)
Also I will answer the Health & Beauty Myths throughout the beauty Balm (which includes other pages for Skin, Seasonal beauty care & so on) so now you know if you visited before (& I thank you for the loyalty) and missing part of the beauty balm that you can no longer find, (like the section for the guys) don’t worry it still exists but it is it’s own entity now! There is a section that has a listing of all the ‘spin-offs’ I’ve done from this original page even if it has not yet been published, (if there’s no picture next to it, then it has yet to be published) but I AM working on them. There are even a few new ‘sections’ in the form of seperate pages.
If you like this lens & are going to facebook like me, then please use the Thumbs up one too.

I’m sure I have quite a few of these 50 Things No Woman Over 40 Should Own

I have 2 -3 claw clips of varying sizes, they are the ONLY thing that hold up my thick hair (down to the back of my knees)

Keychains… I’m guilty They are either from where I’ve been or a gift. I have a little collection
Tassels I like for a decoration on a purse or as a zipper pull, or even as a bookmark. I make them for people. I made one for the old ‘skeleton’ key for my bed room door

Health & Beauty myths
1. you don’t need suncreen on a cloudy day
2. Walking is the only exercise you need
3. Drink more water to hydrate your skin
4. Moisturizing Prevents wrinkles
5. Pluck 1 gray hair and 10 more will grow in its place
6. Expensive skin care products work better
7. Calcium supplements are needed for strtong bones
8. Crossing your legs causes varicose veins
There’s a variety of ways to exfoliate your skin and depending on your point of view the best time to do it is during the winter with the dry dead skin, or the summer for a nice even tan.
There’s light to coarse exfoliating but that would depends on your skin type’
There’s EXFOLIATING CLEANSERS
like the Ocean Salt cleanser from LUSH (noted in the links) its made with natural Sea salt to exfoliate your skin
Dark Angels facial cleanser from Lush it looks like tar, and around Halloween will work well to use as a beard if you go the hobo route for Halloween (instead of using that gross thick Halloween make-up that’s a problem to get off.
LOOFA which you have to rub in a COUNTER clockwise motion until you are pink to reddish in tone
a PUMICE STONE for your feet & legs (& DANG! Your legs come out silky smooth! Put some lotion or baby oil on those legs after doing so, weather its Winter or summer.
This is a good idea to do BEFORE Waxing as it will clear dead skin cells out of the way so if there’s any hair just under the skin you will get to that too. Then when you shower next day do it again to prevent ingrown hairs.

This section I will add to as I use the wax myself & try (& hear of) new things.
Ok this is a new section I thought to include, WHY? Well as it seems everything I like or that works well for me gets discontiunued so I had to switch waxes from Gigi’s microwaveable no strips needed Blue wax to something else. I stuck with the Gigi name & found Honee Wax. I tried it on my eyebrows & the fine hairs on my lip & chin, I thought using this wax & having to use the strips to pull it off would hurt more if I did it myself but know what… I had no qualms with it. Just to let ya know how little it hurt..I was thinking of trying to do my underarms with it.
If you are going to do your own eyebrows, Please Watch this video first on how to get the perfect brows for your face, from the LiveWell network
For those of you that might want to try & save some money (or see if you can Do it yourself) There’s a few things you need (maybe 5)
1. Gigi All Purpose Honee Microwave Formula, 8 Ounce
I use this and at least when I do it, it doesn’t hurt. It’s Honee Wax. I put it in for 1 minute straight on high and it’s liquid. I jsut blow a bit on it then smooth it on area and rip!
With the honee wax above you will need strips. Not sure if these are the thin narrow ones I have for my eye brows & strays for legs etc I’d advise something bigger to make things go faster.
HEre’s a whole roll of strips you can cut to the size how long or short you want.
4. Johnson’s Baby Oil, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, 14 Ounce (Pack of 2)
After you’ve waxed put a little baby oil on it so you can get any excess off and with this one it will soothe the area
Not only moisturizes reduces scarring!
a few days after (4 or 5 days) start putting some vitamin E oil
(like that in those vitamins. just poke a hole in one & put it directly on the area)
Shower & Bath
products tips & more
When you buy Shower Items, try layering the scent, with a Body Wash, Lotion & Shower/body spritz, as well. Some Good Places to find products with a variety of products in the same scent Avon & Bath & Body works
*being most Perfumes & Colognes are full of alcohol so spray a bit into your hand first then rub, this will evaporate some of the alcohol for a longer lasting scent
*try medium to light scents, you don’t want your dates to be choking on too heavy of scents (especially if they have allergies)
*if its a spray; spritz once each (say on your) neck, arms, and one on your chest or back of your . Even if it’s a light scent you don’t need to smell like you took a bath in it. (though a shower spray is light and there usually isn’t a problem with these
if it’s not a spray then when you put it in your hands rub together Spread the scent a bit on your neck, chest & arms.
TAR -if for some reason you somehow got some on you (or a product like it) don’t fret, you can get it off with rubbing Alcohol or Astringent
Refreshes, Soothes and cleans
after your face (& neck) washing routine use some soaked onto a cotton pad, & wipe your face to remove the remaining dirt, Soap film & make-up.
It even helps after shaving! So guys you can use this as an after shave!
Witchhazel is also good for minor cuts, scrapes & skin irritations (ie: bug bites)
What color make up depends on your skin tone & the eyshadows depend onthat and your eyecolor as to what will look best on you. Like Puprle brings out Brown eyes while olive green brings out a honeybrown eyes. How to apply your make-up depends ont he shape of your face and facial features. Check out a book if you are jsut starting or see if you can have a a make-over done (If I’d get mine done, i’d do it at the M.A.C. stand in macy’s the brand is expensive but well worth it. wheni’ve used the eyeshadows, they last for HOURS!! I think it was over 6 I had mine on for!
To start, wheather you remember Jem & the Holograms or not 7 Beauty Lessons from a favorite classic 80s cartoon who was in the now even before 2014
SUNSCREEN- You need sunscreen everyday even on a cloudy day as 80% of the harmful UV rays can pass through the clouds & fog! Besides the cancer threat without the sunscreen, the sun is 90% the cause of those wrinkles & age spots e exposure to the UV light rays damage the elastin & collagen fibers deep down in your skin which causes it to lose its strength and flexibility
PRIMER- a base to use before putting on your make up (under foundation or if you don’t use foundation)
FOUNDATION- remember to use one with spf in it otherwise be sure your moisturizer does and put that on & let it sink in before adding your foundation.
EYESHADOW- Put a lighter color but bright Bold type color eyeshadow with mascara (weather Black or clear) it will make your lashes look longer. Just be sure to use a lash curler & brush
DARK EYE CIRCLES???- Use Cover Up a shade lighter than your skin tone
(each are $10 a month for women, for men Birchbox is $20 a month .

even better, use the one with Aloe & Vitamin E
(if you have use liquid latex basically soak your face with Babyoil soaked paper towels & after a few minutes just wipe up.) Regular make up no need to soak, just wipe off the clean face use Witch Hazel afterwards
MAKE-UP CLEAN UP
What type of make-up person are you? The Horde that has tons of everything? or the type who’s ‘face paint’ fits all in a nice cosmetic bag? (minus the liquid foundation)
Well all these types of make up have their expiration even though the FDA doesn’t make it that they Have to have expiration dates on them. Thisis a summary I copied down from an article from May 2008 Good House Keeping issue
Keep Make-up & scents (perfume body sprays & the like) out of humidity (which means the bathroom) & esp. out of the sun. (esp. the fragrance, which will ruin all but you don’t want those extra special ‘expensive’ ones scents to change do you? also see the info at the end of the chart

Fragrance- (some can be kept 7 years), as with all ‘beauty’ products it should be left out of the humidity (of the bathroom) & the sun as it can totally change the overall scent.
Vitamin, Retinol, hydroquinone, change more rapidly especially in direct sunlight or exposed to air. Some other products become more potent over time
Recently I was asked about a good hypoallergenic eyeliner & mascara. I don’t use mascara often but I usually only use the clear one by Cover girl. (Though I am not sure if its hypoallergenic) I told this person Almay, Physicians Formula & Bare Minerals are good you can find a few examples here

a scratching of Nail tips (sorry for the double pun there)
Want to QUIT BITING YOUR NAILS ? I quit by just using fake nails purchased at a drug store now my nails grow pretty much like wild fire.
But you need to take care of them. Don’t leave them on longer than a week, file them & buff them & let them get air. Then next day put a clear coat on (if not a color) You can use nail growth or strengthening formulas. My nails can almost cut like a knife!
Give yourself a manicure that lasts!!5 Step mani Last
PREP. With a cotton ball get it wet with some polish (if you have fake nails or have acrylic over your real ones, use NON-asatone remover) to dissolve the old color (if there’s any left) as well as whatever dirt & oils may be on your nails.
1. Apply a thin layer of a base coat which is usually a tacky formula to keep the polish anchored to your nail if you don’t have an actual base coat clear polish or ridge filler will do fine!
2. Next get your color polish and before you take a stroke on your nail you want to wipe the brush on the inner rim of the bottle.
Use three strokes to pain your nail first middle then sides. Do one coat firs on each nail first. Let dry (if you must dry it with your hair dryer or a nail dryer fine) after that coat is dry, paint on another. (try letting this one dry naturally)
3. After 2nd coat, swipe the polish across the tip of your nail to prevent chips holding the brush vertically.
4. when dry swipe on a clear coat (p.s. thinking of using that No Chip stuff? Don’t! You nails chip sooner than they normally would) and after that one is dry do another!
5. get your hair drier and blow dry for 2 minutes on the heat setting to evaporate the chemicals in the polish Then 3 minutes on the cool setting (this is for EACH hand) Need it to last a full week 2 days after the initial mani, throw another clear coat on.
MAINTAINING A MANICURE!! A long lasting manicure or pedicure starts at the salon: Choose a light shade of polish, which won’t readily show chips. Ask the technician to push your cuticles back INSTEAD of cutting them, as cut cuticles become ragged-looking faster. *Each day after your appointment, apply cuticle minimizer (Butter London melt away cuticle eliminator, $20 butterlondon.com) to slough off dead skin cells and preserve smoothness and paint on a clear top coat to maintain polish’s shine (esp. for manis.) * Touch up any chips with a polish pen in a neutral color (with light shades, you don’t have to worry about matching exactly) *Moisturize hands frequently (& esp. after washing) & when feet begin to get dry, exfoliate in the shower with a gentle foot file; follow with a rich cream (like a body butter) Avoid using gritty scrubs, since they can dull polish. (oh well so much for mine. I use the Tropical coconut sea salt foot exfoliating scrub from Avon.)
olive oil can help build strong fingernails and soften cuticles. Before bed, soak your nails in a mixture of lukewarm olive oil and lemon juice. Put on soft cloth gloves and let the oil penetrate overnight. Your nails will gradually become more resistant to breaking and chipping. (I’m guessing that means no more brittle nails…Eh?)
For those of you that want to clean your nails up with a soak (and you are not in the mood to go to the salon or don’t have enough cash.. use these items in your house!
Nail Soak- (best done before shower/bath) in a small Chinese take out container collect Peroxide, Alcohol, liquid bleach, sea /bath salts, liquid soap, and finally warm to hot water …First include the ingredients
* Cap Full – bleach if a medium to small bottle use a cap full otherwise try a teaspoon first
*1 teaspoon, – Peroxide
* 1 teaspoon Alcohol
* 2 Table spoon nail polish remover
* Tablespoon of Bath salt
(exfoliates- put in more to your liking, if you want it to be more gritty. )
* 1 squirt Lotion
* ½ cup water
First a little less than 1/4 full as hot as possible, mix around and put a squirt of soap in there) Run the water a luke warm to 1/2 of the container & should NOT exceed ½ the size of container. You can pre measure the water amount before you mix the ingredients in. (They must be put in first in order for lotion & salts to melt when you put the water in)
Milk (calcium your nails need it in you! And also helps on the outside too!)
Nail Oil (cuticle) if its in a squirt bottle then just give a quick squirt otherwise you’ll have to do this afterwards with a wand or whatever other means your cuticle oil comes as.
Hand Lotion (non greasy) Lubriderm or St. Ives is good. Even some scented lotion. and
Vitamin E capsule (prick it with a pin or purchase the bottle of it) There’s really no measuring for this one except ONLY 1 Vitamin E ,capsule squeeze out entire capsule (be careful when you squeeze it an make sure the hole is big enough) and the milk is to be 1st thing to put in the container, fill it to be over your entire nail and cuticle, as far as your first knuckle. Add as much lotion as you’d like double the amount you’d use for the 2 of your hands, this will be good to use on your feet as well! (also if you want heat some water in a pot, and put the container in .. if you do it this way after you measure the milk, put it in another cup then put in cold) Oh hey one more thing, for your feet, you can use the Liquid foot powder as well, and if you have any you can see if bath and body works has some more of that nice refreshing foot spray. (big ones are $15 small ones are $5
Salon Express Stamping kit WITH Nail art paint
Salon Express Combo of Nail Art Paint Plus the Stamping Kit
I wanted this when I saw it on tv, and while parusing a store I found it at a cheaper price, plus as soon as i got home I ordered like 25 plates off Amazon for $13 & change which between that & the price I paid for the kit came to what the price of the kit alone was on tv.
anyway for doing harder designs like plaid and such, its much better to use just be sure your polish is fully dried & you use enough of polish, & scrape it off to get it on the stamper to stamp on your nail. it does take a little getting used to & of course as usually the opposite hand you write with comes out a bit better but after a bit of practice… it looks so good people would think its just a decal!

Crossing your legs gives you varicose veins
Not that simple
Those enlarged dark purple veins are the work of weakened valves & for some women hormonal changes. After the blood goes down into your legs, it defies gravity & goes back up towards the heart where tiny valves open & then close so that it doesn’t go back where it came from.
AS you age veins lose elasticity & valves weaken so blood flows backwards and pools causing your veins to enlarge & become varicose. Some experts consider standing in same position too long

basic hair care and tips
Brush out first
WASHING your hair EVERY day will strip your hair of its natural oils, and you will get split ends faster.
Blot hair with towel (if its long hair as rubbibng caused tangles)
Don’t brush your hair when its wet. brush it when its just slightly damp or fully dry. Finger brush your hair when wet, to get out the tangles.
During the summer you can skip every other day.
If you work out, and have to wash it every day, use a conditioner or better yet, a leave in conditioner.
During the winter you can go 2 days as not only does it strip your hair of the oils, its dries it out as well.
When you do wash your hair, use a bit of leave in conditioner
I used to tell this to a girl I used to work with & she wouldn’t believe me, so when she told me after a hair cut about this I had do the i told you so! I was telling her for YEARS
CONDITIONER keep it to a minimum when you put it on, put on from halfway down your hair & then toward your tops. Then put the bottom of your hair on your scalp & move it around up there a little. They say that if you put the conditioner directly on your scalp that’s how you get the buildup. However they have also said you don’t need it near your scalp but hey your hairs have follicles etc all over right.
SHAM WOW! I tried it & loved it, it really works! The Sham wow w/ my thick hair took out the excess water, plus I left it around my shoulder w/ a hair clip& absorbed more. Some of my hair in front was already dry in about a half hour!! Which usually takes an hour or 2 to just START to
MAINTAIN A HAIRCUT First visit an experienced stylist; a precise cut look better for longer than one from a novice hand. If you have short hair, which often requires monthly appointments, go with a style that grows out well. * after haircut, keep your ends hydrated by using a daily leave-in conditioner. (I personally use The Garnier fruitics one) If they look fuzzy some days, work in a dab of shine-enhancing oil (serum) to smooth them. * Five or six weeks after your cut, when split ends start to appear, try an at-home glossing treatment to help seal strands and add shine. * if you have bangs, trim them. Smooth down dry hair with a comb, then hold your shears so that the tips point up at a slight angle and trim a bit at a time. Don’t snip horizontally, which can lead to over cutting (before any trimming of hair at least mist it a little with some water. Dry cut can lead to fast split ends. you are ‘talking’ to a person that does this OFTEN! I do this every 3 months. Sometimes I leave regular conditioner in when I trim it myself, & looked quite nice. When I’ve done it that way I was asked where did I went to get it done!)
*Blow-dry your hair? If yes, do not blow the air up it damages your hair shaft, blow down so you do not 1. Damage your hair, 2. You will have less to no frizz at all & 3. It will look a lot shinier!
Move the dryer around so you won’t burn your hair or scalp.
*Prevent Hair Loss- Message scalp with extra olive oil (the Golden color is best) every evening for eight days. Let it work overnight and wash it out in the morning. (If you have dry scalp or have dull hair put a dime to quarter size in the palm of your hand and work it through while in the shower before you wash your hair. leave on for a minute or more, then rinse out. Your hair should be shinier when it dries.
Don’t worry if you pluck out a grey hair.. they don’t multiply what happens in one hair folicle does not affect the others. The color is determined by pigment called melanin; as you age, less of it may be produced and the pigment cells in the hair die your hair turns white. g can str slow the rate at which you gray. Whatever you do don’t just yank it out, cut it, as yanking it out could traumatize the follicle.
I just DYEd in Your arms tonight
Dying tips because you don’t want your hair to look dead.
When you get your hair colored.
Ask your stylist if a CLEAR GLOSS Treatment is complimentary. (Good Housekeeping mentions that sometimes it is.) The treatment holds in the color by sealing the hair shafts. & try NOT to wash your hair for 2 days. (in other words if you get it done on Friday.. wait until Sunday. also Hot water opens up the pores in your hair & the coloring leaks out (even after the 2 days. so when dyed hair try using lukewarm water or as cold as you can stand it. That plus it’s also good for your skin. Hot water dehydrates your skin always good to give yourself a nice cool shower on your hair & body and it’s so refreshing in the summer.
How do I Get HAIR DYE OFF HANDS & NAILS?
This home remedy usually does the job: Squeeze Lime or lemon juice over skin & nails (citric acid is a natural bleaching agent) . Let set for a few minutes, then scrub clean w/ a nail brush. OR try moistening a tablespoon of table salt (sea salt would be best as it would scrub in between pores & creases) with a few drops of white or cider vinegar, & use as a scrub. (with or w/o the nail brush) Rinse extremely well in warm water; then moisturize with your lotion or olive oil.
After a hair coloring, (pro or DIY) do not shampoo for at least 24 hours. This will help the pigments set.
EXTENDING HAIRCOLOR Rich color makes hair look healthy, shiny, & thicker and can even brighten a face. But within a month fading or visible roots can sour the effect. * to keep your shade vibrant longer, use shampoos & conditioners formulated for colored hair; they contain gentle cleansing agents that won’t remove color from the hair shafts. (I use the Neutrogena colored hair shampoo when mine is) *Once a week, you can swap in a color depositing shampoo, which leaves behind a layer of semi permanent pigment for a subtle boost. (do not use one every day however as those pigments can build up and alter a pro color.) *When roots begin to show, apply a temporary color with an easy liquid touch up wand. Dab directly onto roots, then comb the strands to distribute (extra benefit: hair looks thicker) The no-commitment shade will wash out during the next shampoo

Be Realistic. Don’t expect to lose 50 lbs in 3 months when you didn’t gain it in that amount of time. and average of 1-3 pounds a week is realistic, attainable & safe. Know Temptation Tolerance.. Like Pringles says Once you pop you can’t stop, then keep the junk food out of site. Get something healthier to substitute it. Maybe Instead of a Chocolate chip cookie, have a chocolate chip granola bar (I like the Quaker ones that are soft & chewy) Practice distraction If you are a mindless muncher or emotional eater remember if you are active the less you will eat. Do something with your hands. Take up a new hobby like sewing, write a story or if you specialize in something make your own webpage or easier.. Squidoo lens! Go walk, read a book (with me if I’m reading I munch a bit) take some sort of class (just nothing to do with food!) Have a mantra Repeat something like I can do this & repeat it. if you start feeling hungry or just go to reach for a snack.. reach for the telephone & call a friend or go play a game on Facebook or something of that sort.
*SLEEP–Sleep is important and when you do not get enough of it, you may or will eventually become an emotional disaster! (I’ve went through this before) Pick the perfect pillow! SIDE sleepers..a firmer pillow is better than a softer one. A pillow should keep your back aligned for maximum comfort. The Lower edge of your pillow should rest between your chin & shoulder. (or better yet, just get one of those ergonomic pillows for side or back sleepers) BACK Sleeper???A Softer Pillow gives you better support then a firmer one. For STOMACH sleepers Use a thin soft pillow so your head is level with your chest. You may want to alternate positions, as sleeping on your stomach can put a strain on your neck
Have things been quite stressful & you feel like you just can’t talk to anyone? Make yourself a journal & just write everything into it. If you want throw it out when you are done or keep it & see how you fare in a week, or month & a year! (You might want to hide the journal & if you do it make sure its not on the Business computer!
In a bad, angry mood? Listen to Some metal music I recommend Godsmack (& if there’s some particular person(s) that’s got your venom Flowing) Listen to the song I F*n Hate you real loud (yeah I know that’s not good for the ears but if you try & sing along by the end you may feel a bit better.
In a Sad mood? Then listen to some sort of pop music I think Katy Perry Would be a good choice, something that maybe even you don’t really like the song but has a cool rhythm that you find yourself bopping around to (even though you don’t want to) would be good.
Are you in a Hyper Mood? Listen to Country music that will bring you down pretty quick (& not the rocka-billy type stuff) I mean the REAL country music. either that or back to the metal, Thrash is the best as that usually has a very up tempo & moving around to that will wear you out quick. Same goes for house & free style music.
Exercise (of Course) even if it’s just cleaning the house. Change up how you exercise each day to keep things interesting, Clean one day, Go walking the next, Lift weights to tone another day, etc. & change up the next week. Because when you do the same thing everyday Your Body gets used to it & then all that exercising becomes a waste of time as you are not losing any weight or toning up as your body is used to what you are doing.
Keep those feet Dry and Warm. Scientists have discovered that our mom’s were right. Getting a chill CAN bring on a cold. At Cardiff University in Wales the researchers study showed that people with cold, wet feet are 2 1/2 times more likely to report cold symptoms in the following days, than the people with warm dry feet. What the scientists believe is that the cold feet cause blood vessels in the nose to constrict lowering our defenses in the nose
QUIKY TIPS for those COMPUTER CRAMPS
SORE NECK- Position monitor so it’s at eye level. So you are reading the words looking straight ahead. Take breaks every 15-20 minutes & turn head from side to side, roll it forward & backwards to keep it from getting stiff.
EYE STRAIN- Every 15 minutes or so look away from the screen at something about 20 feet away from you (Like a tree outside) Keep the screen clean.
BACK STRAIN-Sit up straight. (that’s what makes my back hurt though) put a pillow behind your lower back if needed, Doing sit-ups & push-ups also improves your posture and strengthens your back muscles and abs.
SORE WRISTS or FOREARMS – When Typing or mousing be sure your elbows are at a right angle or greater. Your forearms parallel with the floor and wrists are flat.. Take plenty of breaks & loosen things up a bit by ending your wrists forward & backward or squeezing a stress ball.
A backpack & its contents should weigh no more than 10-15% of you or your child’s weight. So an 80lb child would carry no more than 12 pounds. If the teachers are piling on the homework try a wheeled bag. & whatever books are not needed during the school day, or at home if there is one
available.. use the locker (tho’ it was because of mine getting broken into so often I just started to carry the 30s lbs of books around instead.).
One of the body’s most powerful alarm signals, is often a sign of physical or psychological overload. There are several types of headaches, and they differ according to how and where the pain occurs. These include
*Tension- Dull oppressive pain occurring in the temples. Begins at the back of the head and neck or in the forehead and spreads throughout the head. Causes: Muscular tension or bad posture.
*Cluster- piercing burning pain, which occurs on one side of the head and always in the same place. Cause: unknown.
*Simple- Hammering, buzzing, pulsing in the head. Causes: stress, sensitivity to weather or changes in the atmospheric pressure, high blood pressure, fever or lack of oxygen.
*Combination headaches -Dull Oppressive pain that usually begins in the morning and reoccurs between migraine attacks. Causes: unknown. & Migraines-an especially intense form of pain is usually on one side of the head only. They are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting & impaired vision. Causes: hereditary factors or circulatory disturbances in the brain.
A Common cause of headache is tense muscle in the head or neck. They may also be a symptom of stress, caffeine withdrawal, allergies, certain infectious diseases or the result of too much alcohol. Constricted or expanded blood vessels, as well as altered pressure in the head (which may occur when the weather changes) can also produce headaches. Natural methods including relaxation exercises, massage & homeopathic remedies can often be as effective as standard medications in preventing or relieving the pain cause by different forms of headache.
Remedy= Run Yourself a warm bath to alleviate tension and relax blood vessels.
Combine the following essential oils (or if you just have some sort of candles/aromatherapy items)
3 drops of Chamomile, 3 drops of Lavender & 3 Drops of rosemary add the mixture to the bath water.
Extra Tip- this time tested home remedy can provide quick headache relief. Put a few drops of FRESH LEMON JUICE into a cup of BLACK COFFEE and drink it in small sips. WARNING: This is NOT for people with sensitive stomachs
Poultices for Pain-
Cold Compress- Moisten a cloth with cold water, put 2 drops of peppermint oil on it and apply it to the painful area for about 15 minutes.
Potato Poultice- cat 2 large, unpeeled potatoes into quarters and boil until tender. Mash them and press out the excess moisture. Wrap the warm mixture in a cloth; place it on the back of the neck for about 15 minutes. (anyone want to try this?)
Horseradish poultice- add a small amount of water to finely grated horseradish. Wrap it in a cloth; apply it to the neck for not more than 5 min. This will stimulate the skin, which help extinguish headache pain. If your skin is sensitive, spread cream over your neck before applying the poultice. OR minimize your exposure to external stimuli, exercise in fresh air and abstain from smoking & alcohol. For Relaxation & avoidance
create a soothing environment, free of such external stimuli as noise & light. Ventilate the room; a fan will help circulate the air (but don’t let it blow directly on you) Close the windows and draw the blinds. Turn off the radio/TV and unplug the phone. If still noisy, plug up your ears with cotton balls or if you have ear plugs. (& I don’t mean the buds to your iPod) Try to relax preferably with the aid of a technique like Yoga.
You can also try a footbath which would divert the blood from your head to your feet. Bathe feet in a basin of 85 degree Ferienheight water.dump hot water at 5 minute intervals until 115 degree ‘F is reached. After soaking your feet for 5 minutes, pour in cold water until the temperature is lukewarm. Put on wool socks (something warm) and lie down for about 20 minutes.
also you can talk to a nutritionist about taking herbal supplements like Kava kava thought to relieve tension headaches, and feverfew & Gin kobiloba are often recommended to prevent migraines.

CARROTS- they ARE good for your eyes like your mother may have always told you. The veggie is reach in beta carotene and vitamins C & E lowering the risk of losing your eye site. What happens is Molecular Degeneration increases as we age, stealing the vision except for the outer edges and leaves black holes or dim images in the center of vision
CHOCOLATE.. No Guilt Contains beneficial substances that can improve mood and brain function! Possibly as addicting as coffee as they contain psychoactive compounds that may contribute to pleasurable sensation of eating it.
The Bliss molecule….traces of this neurotransmitter Anandamide aka the Bliss molecule produces feelings of euphoria
Hormone Help ……..because of Chocolate’s estrogen-like compounds, men who eat chocolate tend to live longer than those who do not!!!
Antioxidant power…..a standard chocolate bar and a glass of red wine contain about the same amount of antioxidants, which help to reduce your risk of heart disease Cancer and other ailments
GARLIC- Yeah Vampires hate it, and some people even the littlest bit are appalled by the smell, however I swear mine & all others’ lives on it!
It seems the ONLY time I get sick is when I go without using any garlic on my foods. Pharaohs used to feed garlic to their workers to keep them strong & healthy. Wouldn’t it be wise from what others knew millennia ago! that Science confirms (as of Men’s Health Sept. 2011) They Note It
HICCUPS- I don’t know about the other ways (drink water, hold your breath someone scarring you…. Doesn’t work for me, BUT I have found something that does. PEANUT BUTTER! Take a nice big heaping tea/tablespoonful & eat it (even if its just enough to fill half your mouth)
when it gets to where the air bubble in your Diaphragm is, the weight of it should make the bubble burst & no more hiccups. If you are allergic to Peanut butter try subbing it with something Almond butter or something of the sort you are not allergic to.
WATER- detoxify yourself to better looking skin.
POMEGRANATE – & other fruits & Berries as well some dark chocolate (check label) have antioxidants in them to boost your immune system, There’s even POM juice (which might take some getting used to I pref. the Nectarine one) or you can go for the LITE version
What Are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are important disease-fighting compounds. Scientists believe they help prevent and repair the stress that comes from oxidation, a natural process that occurs during normal cell function. A small percentage of cells becomes damaged during oxidation and turns into free radicals, which can start a chain reaction to harming more cells and possibly disease. Unchecked free radical activity has been linked to cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.
This study assesses antioxidant levels in more than 100 foods, including fruits, vegetables, cereals, breads, nuts, and spices.
Cranberries, blueberries, and blackberries ranked highest among the fruits studied. Apples ran a close second, and dried fruits were also leading contenders. Peaches, mangos, and melons, while scoring lower than berries, still contain plenty of antioxidants as well as other nutrients.
The All Purpose Defense System
* FIGHTS CANCER Garlic can block the formation of carcinogenic compounds and support DNA repair, according to a review of studies in ANTI-Cancer agents in medicinal Chemistry. John Milner Ph.D., of the national Cancer Institute says that the sulfurous compounds in garlic can actually function as “pro-oxidants’ chemicals that cause oxidation damage in cancer cells, helping to destroy them.
* HELPS YOUR HEART Garlic has been shown to reduce hypertension as well as plaque formation in arterial walls. An Australian meta-analysis concluded that garlic reduced blood pressure in people with hypertension, while a study review in Molecular Nutrition & Food research found that a diet rich in garlic ma help stave off atherosclerosis, a precursor to heart attacks and strokes, by preventing blood clots and improving blood-vessel function.
*BLOCK FREE RADICALS A review by researchers showed that compounds in garlic can help boost immunity and scavenge the free radicals linked to disease and aging.

Parsley- For more than 2000 years has been known as a medicinal herb, originated in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Greeks valued the seeds and roots of the plant for their soothing, diuretic effect on those with kidney and bladder ailments. Today is still primarily used the same way, in addition it strengthens the digestive system and helps alleviate stomach and liver problems. In folk medicine, parsley is recommended for women who have irregular menstrual periods. As a Diuretic it may also ease the bloating that some women experience before their periods (aka CURSE) Parsley leaves are a good source of many vitamins & minerals- including iron, which is important for the proper formation of red blood cells, potassium, and vitamin C. Therapeutic Effect: Parsley is a diuretic that purifies the blood and accelerates the excretion of toxins. It stimulates appetite and aids digestion and metabolism. The Herb can also ease bloating, stomach cramps and nausea, as well as relieve arthritis symptoms. Eaten regularly, it reduces heart rate and lowers blood pressure. To keep your breath fresh, chew on fresh parsley leaves. And for treatment of kidney stones, brew up some parsley tea!
Kitchen Hints: Do not Cook Parsley, as heat destroys (as with everything) its valuable vitamins and minerals. To retain parsley’s flavor, chop the herb just before using and add it to hot foods at the last minute.
*Avoid Dried parsley it is far less tasty and less healthful than the fresh herb.
*Try the Flat leaf variety :also called ‘Italian parsley’ it has more nutrients and better flavor than curly parsley. Chop the herb just before using than sprinkle the pieces of the hot or cold dish.
*Add parsley to compliment a dish such as potatoes, smoked salmon, trout, poultry, pasta & veggies.
*Freeze fresh parsley to save preparation time in the kitchen. Wash dry and chop the parsley leaves then freeze them in a plastic container or zip seal plastic bag. You can then remove just the amount you need for each recipe.
*Keep parsley fresh by sprinkling it with water, wrapping it in paper towels and refrigerating it in a plastic bag. Or, place parsley stems in a glass of water (like a bunch of flowers) and refrigerate

Food is always the first best source for the nutrients you need, aiming to get it from your diet first.
Low-fat & Non-fat milk yogurt & cheese are the best sources along with green veggies though those contain smaller amounts.
Vitamin D is naturaly available in few foods like fatty fish it’s also added to milk and a few other products. You can also get some by hanging out in the sun (but not long. 10-15 minut

‘Cure’ a cold
- 1st resist blowing your nose, research chows that blowing it can propel bacteria & viruses back into the sinus cavity
- Drink lots of water, especially if you have a fever. Water, tea (esp. Green or white) and juice (Pom, orange) will help. prevent dehydration which messes up the body’s removal of toxins produced while fighting viruses.
- Open up a window to let out the germ infested air & instead of piling on the blankets …. Play a video game it will help boost your immunity thanks to the good stress it levels up a key immune protein to soar and help you get better faster. (another reason one should stay home a day or 2 from work)
- mix a teaspoon of salt into very warm water and gargle with it four or more times a day to lessen post nasal drip
- Fuel up to help those white blood cells defend against those nasty germs. Consuming a hearty breakfast raises blood-levels & therefore more white blood cells.I know we’re not always hungry when sick but I try to make myself even if I don’t feel so as long as I don’t feel like I’d barf afterwardsI eat Yogurt for breakfast & or a snackat least an egg or 2 (including Yolk for the protein)I usually pref at least one bowl of Ramen a day while I’m sickand then whatever for dinner but usually prefer a nice hearty steak. (as long as I don’t have a sore throat)maybe a fruit cup& usually I drink tea w/ a shot of Whiskey in it (esp. when I have a sore throat it soothes it so much better than cough syrup to me)

PMS PROOF your diet
PMS PROOF your Diet!!!
No Salt, Sugar or Caffeine?! We’d rather be grumpy. (well no chocolate for me, that MAKES me bitchy cause it gives me cramps but here’s the CUREs!) here’s what you Can eat to satisfy your pre period hunger & help get rid of mood swings, bloat & cramps- fast! (by Gina Roberts-Grey from Self magazine Aug 2008)
MANAGE MOODS – Try Magnesium. The mineral may reduce PMS-related mood swings by blocking neurotransmitters that rev up the stress hormones. Each day aim for 300-400 milligrams when you are pms-ing.
Some delicious sources include Cooked Spinach (blah) 1 cup contains 157 mg magnesium)
artichokes 1010 mg per cup &
a handful of ALMONDS 75 mg. (also I’ve been told SOY NUTs help w/ mood swings but not sure how much if any magnesium is in them.
BEAT Bloating- Fight water w/ water! or Eat potassium rich veggies like asparagus & fruits such as bananas, strawberries, & melon.
During PMS, your body retains sodium & water. Potassium can help balance sodium levels in your bloodstream & allows your system to flush out excess fluid, reducing bloat. Enjoy 2 or 3 one cup servings daily.
CURTAIL CRAMPS- Consume calcium plus vitamin D (so Milk & walking in the sun for about a half hour) Pre-menstrual deficiencies in these 2 nutrients may cause painful muscle cramps. Your daily goal is to take in about 1,200 mg of calcium & 400 international units of Vitamin D. Work foods like whole grain total cereal (3/4 cup contains 1,00 mg calcium & 40 IU Vitamin D) & fortified milk (302 mg calcium & 98 IU vitamin d. per cup) into your diet.
QUIET CRAVINGS-.Reach for healthy whole grain carbs they activate production of serotonin, a mood lifting brain chemical that is in low supply during your pre-period week; which may account for those cravings for carb-loaded goodies. Avoid the siren song of sweets, including doughnuts, cakes & cookies: Much ON popcorn, or whole grain crackers for relief w/o extra calories.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until almost set but still slightly jiggly in the center. The 3 Day Diet – MUST BE FOLLOWED EXACTLY
CHEMICALLY and ENZYME BALANCED – Lose 10 lbs in 3 days
TUESDAY, WDNESDAY, & THURSDAY diet only.
This Diet works on a chemical breakdown and IS PROVEN. DO NOT VARY OR SUBSTITUTE ANY of the above foods.
Below you will find what seasonings & refreshments you may use & drink. NOthing else. (& don’t over do it on the soda)
When no quantity is given, there are no restrictions other than COMMON SENSE. This diet is to be used ONLY 3 DAYS AT A TIME
IN 3 Days you will lose up to 10 lbs (its worked for my parents). After 3 Days of Dieting, you can eat normal foods but do not overdo it. after your 4 days of normal eating, start back on your 3 day diet. You can lose up to 40 lbs in a month if you stick to the diet.
MOST IMPORTANTLY….THIS IS A SAFE DIET
REMEMBER… DO NOT PICK IN BETWEEN MEALS!
SEASONINGs:you may use SALT & PEPPER that’s all
DRINKS LOTS of WATER, also you may drink some DIET Sodam or PLAIN Iced Tea.
*Also instead of this you can eat regular food & just eat ACTUAL serving sizes Those skinny fries from McDonalds even if you make them yourself a serving is only about 10-12 fries! The best way to judge a serving if you do not have a food Scale, is go by the size of your fist.
Another idea to make sure that you keep losing weight (like if you do the 3 day & then you don’t seem to lose weight switch to just eating the serving size (& I don’t mean a 20 oz soda in one sitting, that should last you 2-3 servings really!) Get one of those books that tells you how much a serving size is like 3 oz. of steak and so forth. Don’t eat a meal in one sitting. It takes your body a few hours (about 3-4) to break down the sugars and so forth in food so having a few ‘nibble’ snacks (carrots, Fruit, Cucumber nuts, some peanut butter) will keep you from crashing. Snack on Fruit or Peanut butter Fruit breaks down slowly keeping blood sugar levels steady and High Protein snacks like yogurt or peanut butter are good for amino acids which keep energy levels high.
Or instead of waiting for the diet to go in to regulation.. switch each week here & there and maybe go 2 weeks with one then go back to another, but I do HIGHLY recommend working on the serving size idea first as it will train your body to learn to eat less before you do the 3 day diet which if you are lucky there’s a snack a day!
Drink Water Losing just 2% of your body’s water can decrease your energy levels to 20% and if you feel thirsty you are ALREADY dehydrated!

S-T-R-E-T-C-H Studies show merely bending down to touch your toes can be a powerful tension buster by increasing blood flow to your brain flushing your whole system with feel good endorphins!
regular brisk walks helps to maintain a healthy weight improves balance, lifts your mood, strengthen your bones, & pardon my sarcasm but supposedly prevents or helps chronic conditions.. but does not seem to for mine. Weight training is important as well! Of course it helps with weight control (but remember muscle weighs more than fat) bone building it also improves glucose (sugar) levels and reduces the risk of heart disease
I thought I’d give you direct links to the pictures instead of throwing more pictures on here.
If there is a chart I failed to think of, please tell me the type of exercise & I’ll find it or send the picture or link
Stress & Anxiety -detracting from your ability to pay attention & your biochemical elements reduce the ability to form memories
Distraction- if you divide your attention by multitasking, then you diminish what you remember.
Lethargy – What you are doing to your waistline & heart health you do to your brain power as well.
TV & computer games- screen based reaction does the thinking for you, your brain just goes along for the ride
Drugs & Alcohol- they can alter brain chemistry (alcohol kills brain cells, but for me seems to act like a ‘loofa’ I swear I always remember a lot better when I have a drink or 2!)
Disclaimer: What works for me, may not work for you)
Friends of Memory
Rest & Relaxation -it really does clear the head
Focus & Pay attention- the old saying ‘Do what you are doing” holds true (do not multitask)
Find Your Time- do your most brain binding work at your most productive time of day (yes I know it’s not always easy)
Re-create conditions- Standing in the place where it happened, may bring back the memory (lie when you go from one room to another forgetting what you were going to do, then going back to the previous room & you end up remembering. (Having lost a thought’ literally)
Tools- take notes, use reminders, don’t listen to those they say don’t write it down, WRITE IT down! Writing t, you are saying it, & doing the motion & seeing it, so therefore 3x more likely you will remember it
Read- reading makes the brain work painting pictures to draw conclusions, analyze information to connect the dots. To remember where you put something, practice saying it out loud to remember where you put it down.
use names and you won’t forget Upon meeting the person, repeat their name as often as possible while focusing on them. (It’s nice to meet you_____” “_____may i ask you a question or ______what is your favorite kind of………” this way your memory will make a better connection
Create relationships with information When students know why something works, they’re more likely to remember that something works’
7 Easy ways to Improve your memory
1. Paint a mental picture- names are usually boring. The times one remembers someone’s name fast is if they have an interesting conversation with them, or they are part of a memorable experience. For instance the name ‘Andrew Bush’ can be Bush with lots of hands ‘AND-drew’ in it.
