Sunblock

The MOST important item. I prefer to use is 50spf UVA and UVB protection

Might be smart to take 2, especially if you still have one from last year as they lose their protection. (You shouldn’t have it longer than 3-6 months if opened)

Do NOT make homemade sunblock, it does not work well enough. (the only time this is good is if you are stuck on coconut island)

While Coconut and watermelon are suppose to have a natural sun blocking abilities Coconut only blocks 20% of the sun’s rays

Call It the Summer diet or SUN diet… 12 Foods That Boost Your Skin’s Natural Sun Protection (plan your drinks and snacks for the beach around them.

I recommend Neutrogena or Coppertone 50 or higher. No matter your skin tone You need it. If you are fair skinned You need to put on every 15 -30 minutes olive skin and darker you really just need every 45 minutes (but it also depends on your area) remember if you decide to go in the water, put more on just before especially if you don’t have a shirt with sunblocking abilities.

Personally I don’t mind getting a slight burn, usually I have it for maybe one or 2 days and then it just looks tan. But then I also do take are of it when I get one. I think the best way to explain it is it looks like you have a little blush on. I have always used the Noxema moisturizing cleanser since I was little and my parents before me. We leave it in the refrigerator and use it when we get a burn, it cools it off, especially after taking a shower. I also have my own aloe plant so I Harvest one of the leaves put it in a little Burt’s Bee’s container with a few drops of fresh lemon juice to preserve it. Plus I also moisturizer after I wash my face.

However I do always put sunblock all over, at least once per hour if not more often. The lower the SPF you have to put it on more often. Also by the end of the day you should only have half your bottle/can left if not all gone. (Basically you should have one tube per person) Which I know is expensive,

Sunglasses

I prefer wraparounds if I wear sunglasses, although I have found a pair of aviator style glasses that look right on me and that was at a dollar tree. I wear the sunglasses to and from and maybe for a bit in the morning before I sit or laydown to tan. (I can’t stand seeing a reverse racoon in the mirror. One of the guys I used to work with, he’s get at least 10x darker than his normal color but where his glasses were shows his true color.

Be sure they have UV protection, and if you already have sunglasses that are supposed to have UV protection, give them the test. (If you do not have a blacklight you can make one with your Cellphone’s Flashlight! (using the video in the link)!

Jacket

You just need a light jacket. If you go to the beach and I especially mean near the ocean it is often breezy if not out right windy. A Baja is a great cover up for when you get a chill. Man was I happy, I had a baja type shirt with me (not that knit type) one of the times I went fishing with my dad and a friend.

Water ShoesSIMARI Unisex Water Sports Shoes Barefoot Slip-on Indoor Outdoor Sports Activities SWS001 Stripe Black 9.5-10.5

I usually only wear these at the beach as if something touches my feet in the water I freak out. I always think a fish thinks my toes are a worm. Another reason is, you don’t know what kind of crap has been thrown in the water. There could be broken glass, pieces of metal something rusty and worse. So I prefer to have a pair of these just to be safe.

Order a pair of Men’s or women’s here and choose a color

However lately I’ve been wearing a bathing top and a pair of board shorts. 9I can’t seem to find the sort of bottoms I want. I found a pair to use as shorts under a costume at a thrift store but can’t seem to find the same shorts in a regular store. I was going to put a ‘normal’ design up until I gave myself a face plant when I saw this shark pair. As for the original boardshorts I was going to show, I liked the design but not really the colors. But at least you can choose what design you want. The one with the pink/purple color be careful. Reading

For me I prefer something that is set in the summer, a cozy mystery or one of my favorite series, especially Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum books.

I also like to bring a magazine along Something I don’t subscribe to So Woman’s world or something else that would have a little fashion, Beauty, some home and food help. I have a few books that are maybe 100 pages or less. When I see that sort I usually buy them for beach reading no matter genre or even if its a kid’s book!. A few of these books are

HatMG Men's Washed Cotton Twill Chin Cord Outdoor Hunting Hat

I Used to use a Bucket hat like this when I needed. I’m not some fashionista and when I was near the ocean last time I was fishing. Also I didn’t even use it until later in the day when the wind picked up and I got a chill as the sun went behind a big cloud. (the the fish had been stealing our bait all day so we took that as time to go)

Now I have this for my fishing hat Adult Unisex Cotton Jeans Cap Old-Fashion Adjustable Hat Quints Shark Fishing Jaws 7 Colors Available there’s a style and color for anyone

for the ladies that prefer a wide brim hat you can choose you color and style

Watershirt

I trust the body Glove brand, as so far as I’ve used mine, I have not been burned while wearing it in the water. However I recommend a short sleeve as it will be a pain to get in and out of a wet water shirt with long sleeves.

This should have a sunblock to it. I know mine had it marked on it when I bought it, I just can’t remember what the level was.

How to grow nails longer faster

This time of year sees harder to grow ones nails that the warmer months. Well the winter weather makes them chip, peel and break because of the dry cold air. So

To grow nails faster…

Calcium is a great source

BIOTIN (like the Hair Nails and skin vitamins or gummies)

foods HIGH in vitamin B7 LIMIT

exposure to water and avoid harsh chemicals & detergents (use cleaning gloves to wash dishes)

Orange Juice & Lemons have vitamin C

Olive oil can keep them moist (esp. in winter so there’s no as much cracking and peeling)

and Coconut oil has a variety of nutrients

·

You can check out this nail soak as well after looking through that.. Honestly You really only need to file your nails a bit, and buff the tops to get circulation going. Be sure to keep nail & cuticle moisturized and THAT will keep nails from peeling and chipping as well as a coat of Sally Hansen Triple strong, OR Sally Hansen’s Grow nails now (its an orange bottle) or their Nail Growth Miracle Growth Treatment.

10 Superfoods to Help Your Nails Grow …

Growing your nails out can seem like a difficult task if you’re not getting the right nutrients in your body, but with the help of these superfoods to help your nails grow, you’ll be well on your way to healthy nails in no time! Eating the right nutrients from certain foods can increase the rate at which your hair and nails grow, along with their strength and overall healthiness. The following superfoods to help your nails grow are rich in certain vitamins that give your nails length and strength. A nice little bonus to eating these foods is they also give you a great body naturally, a healthy heart, and prevent depression by containing so many brain-boosting nutrients! Eat up for better health and longer nails in no time!See the source image

1. Salmon Certain protein sources such as salmon, that are rich in Vitamin D and protein, are some of the best superfoods to help your nails grow. Vitamin D is a powerful nutrient that helps the immune system, along with bone, skin and nail health. Protein that is found in salmon fuels the growth of nails by helping to manufacture collagen in the body, which helps skin, hair and nail growth.

2. Eggs are rich in the B vitamin biotin, which is one of the most potent nutrients for your nails, as well as a powerful nutrient for your skin and hair. Eggs are also rich in protein and Vitamin D, which make them an all-around great food to help your nails grow. If you’re looking to get healthy nails fast, then be sure to include this nutrient-rich food if you enjoy them.

3. Spirulina is a deep sea algae that is most often sold as a powder. Though it smells a little like the ocean, it is one of the most powerful beauty foods on the planet. Spirulina is rich in chlorophyll, which is the green pigment that makes plants green. Chlorophyll helps plants to grow and thrive through sunlight, and since spirulina is rich in chlorophyll, this powerful nutrient helps our hair, skin and nails to grow. Spirulina is the number one food highest in protein per ounce, with 4 grams per tablespoon. It is also rich in Vitamin A, iron and B12, which make it a wonderful food for your nail growth. I like to add it to smoothies and mask the taste with a sweeter ingredient like fruit or stevia. A nice little bonus is it gives you a ton of energy!

4. Coconut Oil contains rich fats that are overall wonderful for your body and your appearance. Coconut oil’s medium chain trygleride fats act in a very special way in the body, helping the liver to filter out toxins. The fats in coconut are immediately for energy, which also aid in metabolism functions and immunity. Coconut’s fats are used to nourish the body on a deep level, and since they are somewhat of a cleansing food, they help to fuel nail growth by keeping the body healthy. The fats also help the body to absorb nutrients from other foods. Many beauty vitamins such as Vitamin A, D, E and K are all fat soluble, meaning they need healthy fats to be absorbed. By eating coconut oil and coconut, the body can properly absorb nutrients better to help our skin, hair and nails look their best. Coconut oil is also a great remedy to help your hair grow and clear your skin. It is one of my top beauty foods!

5. Chicken Chicken is beaming with B vitamins, protein and is rich in zinc. This powerful combination creates a synergistic array of nutrients that send your hair, skin and nails into growth mode. Chicken is also a lean protein, making it a good addition to making sure your body is nourished. A lack of protein in the diet can result in your hair and nails breaking, so be sure to include quality proteins like chicken, which is rich in amino acids, to your diet. If you’re vegan or vegetarian and don’t eat meat, then just read on to the next food to get all the amino acids you need without needing meat.

6. Hemp Seeds Hemp seeds are rich in all essential amino acids and protein, which are easily absorbed by the body. Since amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and protein is needed for healthy nail growth, you want to make sure to get plenty in your diet. Hemp seeds are also rich in healthy fats that nourish the body, along with iron, B vitamins and vitamin E. All of these nutrients help your skin, hair and nails grow faster. I like to enjoy hemp seeds on salads, in smoothies and in homemade energy bars. Always buy hemp seeds raw and organic when purchasing, and store them in the fridge or freezer to prevent rancidity. Their healthy fats are precious so you want to keep them intact!

7. Spinach is one of the most powerful greens on the planet and is a great food for your nails. Spinach is rich in protein with almost 5 grams per cup and it contains Vitamin E, iron, B vitamins such as folate, and Vitamin A. Vitamin A and folate are both beauty nutrients, as I like to call them, because they serve as powerful antioxidants in the body that fight free radicals. Free radicals age the skin, break down collagen and prevent us from looking our best. Antioxidants that fight free radicals are found abundantly in Vitamin A rich foods and folate rich foods. These nutrients help to keep us looking our best by fighting away the bad guys! Spinach is also rich in chlorophyll, which is a wonderful nutrient for hair, skin and nail growth.

8. Pumpkin Seeds Pumpkin seeds are a wonderful food for your nails, along with your heart, your weight, your hair and your skin. Pumpkin seeds are rich in Vitamin E, protein, zinc, fiber, and are alkaline forming, meaning they fight inflammation in the body. The combination of all of these nutrients make pumpkin seeds excellent for your hair. Zinc and Vitamin E have been directly linked to hair, skin and hair health and are found in most nuts and seeds. Make your own raw trail mix and you’ll be well on your way to long nails in no time!

9. Avocados are another rich source of Vitamin E, folate and other B vitamins, plant protein and Vitamin A. Avocados are a wonderful beauty food! Add them to salads, smoothies, sauces, homemade dressings and more. Every single nutrient in avocados helps your nail health, and the healthy fats help your body absorb these nutrients faster and more efficiently. I know I sure don’t need an excuse to eat these little gems since I love them so much.

10. Brazil Nuts are a wonderful source of selenium. In fact, you can get your entire daily requirements of selenium in one Brazil nut! What is selenium? Selenium is a powerful mineral that is responsible for many functions in the body, but most importantly, it serves as an antioxidant that fuels protein enzymes. This helps your body make collagen more efficiently from protein sources that you eat. Selenium also prevents cell damage, meaning it keeps your cells healthy, which in turn helps your hair, skin and nails to grow faster. When cell damage occurs in the body, we don’t look our best and our body can’t do its job to repair our cells. Our nails crack and break, our skin may break out or look dry and wrinkled, and our hair will be damaged and break off. By preventing cell damage, our cells are nourished, and can flourish to keep us looking and feeling our best. Brazil nuts are also rich in Vitamin E, B vitamins and zinc, which are also great for cellular health, and nail growth.

my diet, which includes an array of plant protein, nuts and seeds, healthy fats and lots of leafy greens and green superfoods. When you learn to eat for beauty, the rest just takes care of itself! Have you had any luck with finding foods that help your nails grow?

How to Fix a broken Nail

Now for those of you that can naturally grow your nails this will help. For those that get wraps, tips or fake nails I’m not so sure.

Think of this as a sort of holiday helper type gift. Many of us who may not normally get our nails done through the year, may only get them done this month for as we visit friends and family. I get compliments on my nails, especially from the girls at the nail salon on the odd occasion I have them do my nails.

There are 3 things you will need for this, and you can purchase them below.

Product Review~ TimeStrip Monitoring

See the source image

I have been looking for these for years. I forget when and how I originally heard of them. I’ve looked on Amazon and even ebay. and found nothing. This time when I didn’t find anything and checked the company’s site, I found a way to contact them.

So I mentioned I had been looking for them and that I thought they would be great if marketed for beauty products to keep track of them easier.

Now I thought if I received a reply they would ask me how many subscribers I had, individual hits and all that. To my surprise they did not, and they surprised me again when the UK company sent me a package of complementary items of the product. Not to mention, they didn’t just send 1 or 2 of each of the strips, but they sent a little case with (I haven’t actually counted) I’d say 6-8 pieces each and not just of one time. They sent me a few varying times of 1 month, 3, 6, & 12 month strips to test.

Time and temperature Monitoring Solutions

Upon opening the package there’s a brochure and now I know why I couldn’t find them. They have them listed for use in:

  • Blood Banks
  • Clinics
  • Medical Devices
  • Medical Testing
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Vaccinations
  • Veterinary
  • service reminders
  • maintenance

to sum it up, any thing that has an expiration or where you need to keep track of time, even if only to show the next time to take your car in for a check-up.

There are a couple of things to be mindful of:

The stock products run accurate to specification ( +/-15% tolerance ) at room temperatures of 22C or 71.6 ferinheight .

As you’ll see there is no battery and they work by the movement of a liquid through a membrane. The engineering team calibrate and match the membrane and liquid (veg oils etc) so the timing is accurate.

My interest for them is mostly based on keeping track when to throw out my cosmetics after opening them; however you can use it for food too. There’s just one drawback… It needs to be at room temperature, which means no fridge or freezer. I do hope at some point they will find a way to make a line of them that can be used in the refrigerator as well as the freezer. They would great for the food that gets pushed to the back that you find a month or so later and is so gross you have to get rid of the storage container.

So I started one to try on my fairly new L’Oreal Lumi compact.

The time strips are easy to use, they have ‘power buttons’ just press until you see a red line and you are good to go. The 12 Month ‘button’ is on the back.

On the right you can see I used a 12 month strip and should be able to see the red line on the right.

Of course I had to wait a month or two so I could properly review the product and make sure it worked. Not to mention try and come up with ideas for other uses. I was also trying to think of ways that maybe I could get the company to sell the strips on amazon or in stores in the U.S. These would be good to keep track of medications, even if its to just remember when to order your refill.

So not only do they have the long term strips which a few ideas I came up for were…

1 month – good for organic/natural items (like if you make your own facials, hair masks etc)

3 months good for mascara

6 months Good for Foundations, creams (including the ‘cream and powder In one & liquid liners.

12 and 24 month tracker great for powders (eyeshadows, bronzers, pressed setting powder)

aside from cosmetics (which while writing this review I have come across a version for by a company I’m guessing by the looks of the writing on their site is either Czech or Polish or somewhere within that region)

I also though that some Natural Lotions, soaps and such that you would buy at farmer markets, craft shows or even from my favorite body goodies, Lush where yes they do include an expiration date, but a time strip is easier to see especially for those that are optically challenged.

Another idea is I got was inspired by a few Halloweens ago. I dressed up as a mummy with my own costume I put together. For my face I used little gauze pads to stick to my face, but when I went to use my gum adhesive it was dried up. So the resourceful person I am I use some Elmer’s glue diluted with a bit with water. So I think the make-up FX industry could use these as well.

Then there are those crafters ie: artist’s paints, modeling paints, glues and others that use liquids for what they do and yes that stuff does have a shelf life (but that’s another post for another blog, but I will say climate, temperatures and so on go into that)

And as Timestrips has listed they are also useful to certain professions. Maybe they can even come up with extended years (at least a 5 or 10 year) for wines, or homemade beer, mead and that sort so you know its fermented yet and then when it should be drank by (if like my dad you only put a few beers in the fridge at a time.. just remember they are good at room temperature only… maybe I’ll come back to this at a later time and use a one month strip for something in the fridge (as I do have an aloe plant that has few leaves that need to be harvested.)

Also thankfully they sent the strips in small plastic containers so they arrived safe and were not accidentally activated while in transit. When I’m done with the strips, I can reuse the containers for beading projects.

So basically I guess I’m trying to say is that they can be used in a variety of ways in every day life. Personal, Professional, and hobby. Not to mention they can be used for food in some ways. Like when you make baked goods, does anyone still make bread from scratch? You can use one of the 7day strips. Or for a Bake sale you’d likely need a 1-3 hour one depending on the item being sold.

Another idea, now In a way I am joking but for parents… Whether you want quiet for awhile, or are giving them a time out, why not slap one on them, (not literally) and have the quiet time. Also as with anything they should not be in reach of children, but you can always send them to their room and turn on one of the Hour strips for a little me time and time out for them.

You can find their Brochure and other information attached on this Evernote document I set up.

Timestrip.com

TS 201 – 1 Month

TS 172 – 3 Month

TS 019 – 6 Month

TS 121 12 Month

they also have short term time indicators. there’s 1 hour, 12 hours up to 7 days. (but why skip from 1 to 12 hours? Why not a 3 hour even a half hour? The 1/2 hour, 1 and 3 hour would be good for summer time outdoor recreation, especially a friendly or family gathering at the Beach. Those potato, Veggie and other salads are not good to leave in the heat (and I know there are some and have seen them, just pick something up from a deli on the way and not even have a cooler of their own to bring it in. (and the coolers for each family are usually jam packed, if not with food then with ice.)

Time strip make custom indicators (size wise), but the MOQ is high @ 100K

Their time strips for Hours as well as temperature strips, would be great for Buffet style restaurants. The time strip say a half hour to and hour to leave the food in the buffet before it has to be refreshed. (too bad that can’t be a law everywhere if its not already, as well as all leftovers should be donated to shelters)

The temperature strips I think some can be used in a refrigerator

Now if only there could be one that can be reused for some of the uses. (of course not on food)

I will send YOU one of each strip to try yourself.

20 things to do when you are Bored

Its the end of January and some of you may have cabin fever, just think how you will feel by February or March. In this day and age I don’t get how ANYONE with all the crap we have to ‘toy’ around with and so on, how can one get bored?

There are endless Apps, LOADs of great shows on television now (I Highly suggest watching Lethal Weapon.. its my stand out favorite new show last year.) Plus there’s streaming as well, and all the stuff from the past on youtube.

a few suggestions?

*Watch Lethal Weapon, Game of Thrones or Vikings

*Write a short story or a poem on how you feel

*as much as I hate to…. exercise a bit. (do one of each)

*I have a giant pile of books and only 2 small bookcases, organize your books by alphabetical order (the ones you plan to keep) or make each shelf a different genre, I’ve also seen where people put all books of one color together and look quite pretty especially if you do it as an accent wall)

*READ a print or digital book

*Get a hobby for instance ( I make jewelry and sew among other things like paint…not like I’m good at drawing in the first place but I just freehand the whole thing. I have a few blogs (this, one for writing, Crafts, and my Entertainment one which is the one that keeps me the busiest.and there’s my main one which aside I post random stuff that doesn’t fit to the others, (and I do repost some of the articles and reviews from my other blogs there.

*Play a board or card game with family or friends.

*Is it the spring or summer? Is it a Saturday? Go check out some Yard or whatever you want to call them sales, or even a flea market (why are they called that anyway?) All the ones I’ve been to have sold new stuff Like the Big one in Englishtown new jersey and Stormville.

*You know those adult coloring books? Buy one and some colored pencils (they look best that way to me, though if you get one where the pages have the art on one side, then why not try watercolor as well?)

*Decide what you will wear the next few days

*make a list, any list

*Go through your closet, and see what no longer fits.

*write a short story

Best Beauty Gifts

Sorry for the lack of posts, my computer died, I think it was mid October and I think I already had one post scheduled to automatically publish. Now I have a laptop so I hope once I get caught up on everything, I can hopefully keep up and get more posts written, edited and so on. Being we will all be busy I am not planning on posting anything unless I already have it scheduled. However I am planning during that time to work on and start the schedule for the new year. Til then, Happy Holidays and New year in case you don’t hear from me before!

Being as it is time many start their holiday shopping I thought I’d put together a quick gift giving guide. Sadly my favorite thing on here is no longer available.

I think I may see a little bit if a difference but not quite sure with what.

Day 2

Friday 16

Definitely see a difference. Even went to ask mom if she saw any difference and said yes.

My skin I think you can say looks brighter, smoother, healthier even.

Day 3

Sat 17

So I dozed off before getting to put the moisturizer on, so I applied it an extra time today to make up for it.

Day 4

Sun 18

so I was trying to get an update photo, but I wasn’t able to mimic the previous photo. Though maybe this other one is closer. (I even threw on the same shirt)

Its been humid and muggy here so I’m not sure if that would have anything to do with how I would look in the Images. I can tell you during the summer my cheeks and especially my chin are usually oily. My forehead is usually the only thing normal to dry about my skin. So I’ve been putting a bit more of the cream there than the rest of my face. I wash my face, dab it dry then let it air dry and then put the cream on.

Happy memorial Day ~ Sunblock season!!!

I want to take a moment to wish you a Happy Memorial day weekend. I hope you get to chill & Grill.

And as a daughter, Niece, and granddaughter of veterans and have many cousins in the military

a moment to Thank and remember those who served

I wanted to take this moment to help you out with some fun in the sun care.

Man my nose looks big there.

Many think that you just put sunblock on once or twice and you’re good for the day, WRONG!

I may not burn out of the water but no matter what I put sunblock on throughout the day. While I have Neutral to

Olive tone skin, on the beach I put on at least a 30 or more block EVERY hour (one reason I likely do not burn). Now if I go in the water (which seems to be the only time I do burn) I put more on even if I applied just 5-10 minutes ago, even if I use the sport sunblock which is supposed to be waterproof. Those of you with fair skin, you need to apply at least every half hour and use the maximum SPF you can find.

Another thing is, no matter what skin you have… you need to find the BROAD SPECTRUM (which protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Think of it this way…UVB is what makes you burn, UVA is what ages your skin.

Also don’t use the stuff from a dollar store, Yeah it’s a great idea to pick up an extra in case you run out but I’d rather get another one of a trusted brand like Neutrogena, No-ad (a no frills brand), Banana Boat, or something from Hawaiian Tropic.

You don’t know what its made with, how old or effective it will be and I re-blogged this by someone last year about what happened to someone who used the dollar store brand.

I’ve herd all the beauty magazines, dermatologists etc say You are not supposed to use last summer’s sun block, and to buy a new tube really every 6 months. (If you only use it during the summer, then you are not supposed to use it the next summer as it may be ineffective in it’s job.)

For me, it depends on where I have it stored. As long as it’s away from the heaters, and not in the bathroom but in a cool dry play you may get a few more months out of it, like if you bought it at the end of the season. Also I keep my block in my purse as there are days you can just feel when the UV index is maxed.

Natural Loofah Exfoliating Bath Sponge by Spa Destinations™ (3 PACK of 4" Loofah) "Creating The In Home Spa Experience"™ 100% Money Back Satisfaction Guarantee! Great Value! My Sun care starts before I go in the sun, well before even going to the pool or beach or in what should be this summer’s case.. on the boat!

I not only use a loofa which many seem to think those stupid mesh shower puffs are a loofa! They are no where in the same category. A loofa is a natural sea sponge which exfoliates skin (so you get a more even tan) wash in a circular counter clock-wise motion until your skin gets a pinkish tint (almost as if you got light sun burn color.) That way you know the dead skin is off, and you will get an even tan.

I highly suggest using a loofa before you shave! It will get those hairs you can see just below the skin, but are not quite out yet. When I don’t use a loofa or pumice stone before I shave being I have dark hair it looks like I didn’t even shave!

In the 90s after I would shave I’d rub baby oil all over my legs, before drying off, then I’d rinse some of it off. They would be so soft, one of my guy friends couldn’t keep his hands off my legs. Heck when I do it now (I use the baby oil with Aloe in it) I love how soft my legs are!

Before getting out of the shower I rub some baby oil in everywhere while I still have some water on me to lock in the moisture. usually I try to make it enough (yet little) that i don’t need to rinse off. Say a quater size amount for each arm, leg and torso. If you want to use on your face just use what remains on your hands as well as rub into the backs of your hands!

Here’s another option which looks like a face cloth & here are round facial ones
